for eric.there are some baby-minded warnings off of this site.Posted byBrandon Bucknerat2:59 PM0commentsAn interview with Matthew Vollmer.I have known Matthew Vollmer for some time now. I met him through a mutual friend named, John Ringhofer. We played in a band (Wookieback) together, moved to Iowa City one year apart from one another (as Matt attended the Writer's Workshop and I attended the MFA Painting program), and now we live and teach in different (but geographically close) states. Matthew is currently teaching at Virginia Tech while I am at UTC in Chattanooga, TN. Over the years we've shared mutual interests in childhood TV shows, movies, music, art, Halloween costumes, and distortion pedals. While this is my personal version of approaching a summation of his stylistic approach to writing, I have actually only read one of his short stories. What kind of friend am I you ask? How about the kind who poses questions to Matthew in hopes of posting his answers here so he can tell you a bit about himself, his process, and how he juggles teaching, writing, family, and life in the hills of Virginia.Matthew Vollmer has published stories in Paris Review, Tin House, Epoch, Virginia Quarterly Review, Gulf Coast, Colorado Review, and a number of other magazines. On January 27th, 2009, MacAdam/Cage will release his first collection of short stories, titled Future Missionaries of America.Read the interview here.note: due to the length of the interview, i have posted it through tinypaste. please let me know if you experience any difficulty in reading. sorry that it appears in a typewriter font. you can adjust the size of the text box by changing the size of your browser window. if you know of a way to have all the text appear within this blog in a window (with a scrollable text frame) let me know... i couldn't find the HTML to do it.Posted byBrandon Bucknerat2:37 PM0commentsLabels:author,books,future missionaries of america, interview, knoxville musicians, matthew, wookieback

The Chattanoogan.i recently talked to a local photographer who is interested in street (around town) fashion. his name is cameron, and he's been snapping shots of local chattanoogans dressed as they go to and fro.check it out here. i've also added it to my links.Posted byBrandon Bucknerat10:42 PM0commentsLabels:blog,fashion,new links, photographeri have an interview overdue. i will post it soon.i am helping wendy out tonight with some graphic services (as in graphic design) at her new chocolate kitchen. she just opened up and i've made a blog... (a website soon to come) http://thehotchocolatier.blogspot.com doesn't have a single post yet, but will as soon as i drag some photos off of the ol' camera to show some progress.she was just cleared by the building, fire, and health inspectors and is now open for business. she has two big orders she's working on and between the frame shop (where i work) and the little help i can offer to her, we've been getting home about 2am every night this week. i'll post some more soon i promise. i'll even upload her logo soon.matt, sorry it's not posted yet. i still have to edit some things.i just went out with my brother and his wife (expecting their child), john ringhofer and thera, and wendy to a mexican place (how do we end up getting every guest to meet up w/ us at a mexican place. the sign had letters out, so it read "or mexican res" -the first name is "matador" - i thought it rolled off the tongue well anyways.. they also had a sign on the door posting their "holydays" hours. awesome if you think about it.Posted byBrandon Bucknerat10:32 PM0commentsLabels:eric buckner, jennifer buckner, john ringhofer, wendy

matthew vollmer: teacher, writer, father, husband, wookiebacker.i hope to one day interview matthew (like some important journalist-wannabe) to see how he approaches his material. i like to think that he sets around in sweats watching old spiderman sitcom-era episodes while listening to polvo louder than the TV set. otherwise, he may just take other peoples books and write his name on masking tape placed over there's. i'm certain there's more to it. so, one of these days (of course with matt's approval) i would like to ask a few questions of him and post the interview here.he has a published book of stories and has recently been added to my "list of things to check out" on the side of this blog. so do so now. www.matthewvollmer.com or buy his book at amazon here. if you'd like to see where i've mentioned this before, click here.Posted byBrandon Bucknerat11:53 PM0commentsLabels:amazon,books,matthew,storiesmore info on the SEED show mentioned below can be found...H E R E. it's where all the relevant info ends up.Posted byBrandon Bucknerat11:50 PM0commentsLabels:ava,bin,seed,showanxious (like waiting for the tooth fairy..)well, i've caught wind that the paintallica vessel is making its way here... Or maybe that it is here. one of them anyway. So, I hope to contribute something to it. we'll see.maybe i'll build a clubhouse out of it all and then punch someone in the groin in true paintallica form.Posted byBrandon Bucknerat1:34 AM1 commentsLabels:paintallicaOlder PostsSubscribe to:Posts (Atom)
