How to teach your children to choose and eat healthy food? "The health of youth in the United States is now negatively affected by dangerous eating habits that may eventually lead to obesity. Vending Machines are one of the “easiest” and most convenient ways for children to access snacks, frequently junk food, in schools."... I guess you know about that, maybe if your reading this, you also have this problem at home with your kids: Healthy food is boring and bad food is yummy.  Well why it have to be like that.  Take a look to the clever idea of the designer Irina Ivanova, who create an special packaging for delicious healthy snacks, that will capture the attention of the children. Vitameal1  Vitameal3She also create a system to sell and promote the units.  A machine that will contain the fresh food until the moment that a young consumer insert his/her special card to get in a very easy way whatever he or she wants to eat.  Vitameal5 Design did it again.  Congratulations Irina for your Vitameal project.  Soon all the schools will ask for this nice machines.Via TheDieline. Do you remember that I told you on another post, that a very special restaurant was under construction on the top of a tree? Well, at that moment I show you pictures of the project, I mean, a very close simulation, but right now, real pictures are revealed.  The Yellow Treehouse Restaurant open their doors to the public, so don't forget to visit the place when you visit New Zeland.  Yes, because there is where this beauty came from.TreehouseTreehouse2Treehouse3Treehouse4I guess if the visitors have to made reservations with time, because there are not many tables to choose.  It seems to be a very exclusive place to eat.  Well if someone go, please tell us your experience.Via Contemporist. Bocci Pendant Lighting   Bocci pendant lamps come in many options and are as beautiful as they are versatile. Existing of cast glass, the lights contain frosted hollow centers which hold 10 watt bulbs, giving the illusion of candles floating in water. In a dining or bedroom setting, the feel is undeniably romantic, evoking a feeling of relaxation and intimacy. Commercial spaces get posh and dramatic, and bathrooms become spa-like. Huge, cold spaces like that of a warehouse loft benefit with instant drama and warmth, as well as the smaller living spaces of your home. Styles include Custom, which are arranged to suit your taste, Standard, which are predesigned in linear and clustered form, and Sconce, which attach to ceilings or walls. Custom: Arrange lighting in a custom configuration to suit your design needs.P283405_488_3365P283400_488_3362 P283405_488_3366 P283404_488_3362 P283400_488_3363  P283404_488_3361  P283405_488_33610 P283405_488_3368 Hung in front of a window, the effects are multiplied as they mimic city lights and a star filled sky.1332767572_7b8fdc07bb1332761590_e4146a4d09 1332761024_926cf06b5aStkweb2Stkweb1Standard: Linear arrangment of lights.P283403_488_3361P283402_488_3361P278319_488_3365P283401_488_3361Sconce: Wall mounted.P283406_488_3363 P283406_488_3364    Posted by Lauren O'Malley on January 07, 2009 at 11:03 PM in Bathroom, Commercial Space, Design, Kitchen, Lighting, Living Room, Modern Gifts, Office | Permalink | Comments (0) | TrackBack (0) ingrid bathe porcelain ceramics. Ingrid Bathe's porcelain ceramics are exquisite. She crafts each piece by hand usingporcelain paperclay -- it contains cotton fiber creating a visible texture --and then glazes only the interior side of the piece, leaving the outerlayer unglazed. The result is a delicate translucent vessel with alight bluish tint and where glazed, a light blue sheen. By using such afragile material, the artist intends her work "to provoke a heightenedawareness and sensitivity on the part of the viewer."Ingrid2Ingrid3IngridbatheMy fiance and I recently received Ms. Bathe's salt and pepper dish (above) as an engagement present and were really wowed. The translucent dish is accompanied by two tiny spoons that very much resemble small bones -- probably the most fragile thing I've ever held in my hands. And being that I'm quite a clumsy person,  I made sure to place it in a very secure spot. I suppose you could use the salt and pepper dish every day, but I much prefer to use it when entertaining guests, I don't want to push my luck. To view more of Ms. Bathe's work, check out her Web site, here. Living in World's Tallest Structure Burj Dubai Bonne Annee! This is what I was screaming for a few hours new years eve on the streets of lower east side Manhattan. Which consequently lead to a sore throat that turned into a cold & the flu that is going around. I am sick.  :-( I won't go into details, but between achoo's, sniff sniffs, cough, coughs this is what I wanted to share with you.Picture_3_2Burj Dubai is the tallest manmade structure. I saw the construction in progress when I was in Dubai visiting family in October 2008. It was quite a sight. Homes, offices, restaurants, gym and more all in this magnificent tower. Apparently Giorgio Armani has designed one of his flagship hotels in downtown Burj Dubai. And rumor has it that the Becks are interested in buying a home there. I can't wait for this awe inspiring combination of intelligence, glass, steel and concrete to take its final shape in September 2009. More details on Burj Dubai's website. Burj1_3Burj1BurjHow do you feel about homes in the sky? Could you live on the floor 190? Have  a wonderful year ahead. Happy New Year! Hope you all had a blast ringing in the new year... if not then this post will definitely fix that.FIRST- The rumors on the interwebs have proven true. Thet are filming a real life version of "Where the Wild Things Are." Three cool facts that make this a little bit more exciting are: 1. They aren't using CGI but actual puppets and "wild thing" suits.2. Driected by Spike Jonze3. Screenplay written by Dave Eggers.I know... you guys are probably muttering under your breath that I am a quack and this is all Grade A Bologna. Exhibit A-CWild_things1Wild_things2Wild_things3 (pics via imdb.com)SECOND - Gary Hustwit, the guy who brought us the awesome documentaries on Wilco & Helvetica, has made another bad ass doco on object design called Objectified. So, for this 2009 Movie Extravaganza post I present to you the newly released trailer for the film.--sdotg-- Posted by Anand Gahlot on January 06, 2009 at 06:59 AM in Art, Books, Design, Film | Permalink | Comments (1) | TrackBack (0) So cute I just could not resist to show you this very cute mug I found in Urban Outfitters. Nothing adds life and interest to a room like lighting. In fact, it can often be said that light can pretty much make or break a room. It stands to reason, then, that you might want to put a little thought behind your lighting choices. There's one Texas lamp company ready to wow you with their choices of gorgeous vintage and contemporary lamps.Swank Lighting's beginning is an amazing one, centering around finding a modern day treasure trove of vintage Murano glass lamps in an old warehouse. Buying the whole lot in one fell swoop, Swank's owners Ed and Doug spent time updating the lamps to include new and modern wiring and hardware and debuted their line much to the delight of the nation.2 Now, with a brand new website (you can purchase online now!) and a pretty slick blog (okay, I admit, I write for it) Swank now offers, along with gorgeous vintage Murano glass lamps, new contemporary glass lamps by local and national glass blowing artists.3   Check it out!
