Over at www.reduser.net Jim Jannard has hinted further "change" with an announcement scheduled for December 3rd. "Everything has changed... just as we promised. 
"Only weeks ago RED announced new modular designs for their Scarlet and Epic cameras - with various choices in size of the the Mysterium CMOS chip (brain} with the 2/3 chip capable of 120 FPS..Ground breaking news in itself, perhaps the idea has evolved further, leaving some REDONE owners a little nervous about further development of their camera. Pure speculation at this point.

The flexibility of XDCAM tapeless technology will enable RAI to manage its legacy SD operations and move to HD transmission over the next three years.Mr. Andrea Lorusso Caputi, Director of Production TV Department said, “RAI is committed to moving towards HD content production and this agreement with Sony represents the first pillar in our plan to create a proper platform to migrate to High Definition. (TSE/OSE: 6810) today announced that it would launch Professional Disc with rewritable 50GB recording capacity worldwide in December 2008, offering compatibility with dual layer Professional Disc system for “XDCAM” of Sony Corporation. Nov 17, 2008 1:14 PM Source: Broadcasting Engineering Schneider Optics has introduced the TRU-CUT IR-750 filter, designed to eliminate light in the infrared (IR) spectrum before it reaches an HD camera’s sensors. Most HD cameras have a high sensitivity to light in the IR spectrum, and though the IR light is not visible to the human eye, it can result in odd color shifts and prevent a camera’s imagers from capturing true black tones. As digital videographers use multi-stop neutral-density (ND) filters to allow them to open their lens iris for more depth of field, IR light begins to dominate light from the visible spectrum, making its pollution more apparent. Schneider developed its TRU-CUT IR-750 filter to remove the IR spectrum from the light path, resulting in more vibrant colors and true black tones from both CCD and CMOS sensors. The TRU-CUT IR filter blocks the IR light mere nanometers from the visible spectrum, cutting IR pollution from the image. For more information www.schneideroptics.com.

The upgrade, introduced in November 2008 and known as version 1.2 (V1.2)*, provides more creative options for programme makers, including: * Record and playback of XDCAM HD422 material in 720/50P, 720/59.94P and 1080/29.97PsF (to add to the 1080/50i, 59.94i and 25PsF already supported). * Record and playback of XDCAM HD material at 25Mb/s and 35Mb/s. * Playback of XDCAM HD material at 18Mb/s. * Cross conversion between 1080 and 720, and vice versa. * The option of adding DVCAM and MPEG IMX record and playback (using the SD record and playback options for the camcorder and record deck)**. * HyperGamma operation in the camcorder. * Slow Shutter, Picture Cache and Interval Recording in the camcorder.Camcorders and decks delivered after the introduction of V1.2 have the above features already installed, and are designated PDW-700/1 and PDW-HD1500/1.* Installation of V1.2 can only be performed by a Sony Service Engineer. This must be both Sony's and Pana's ongoing nightmare - with the announcement of the RED Epic and Scarlet Pro. Mike Curtis gives a pretty good run down of the new cameras on the PRO VIDEO COALITION site.You have to remember the RED One has taken nearly three years to the point where it is today - so it is with guarded optimism to believe that some of these new cameras are being touted for release in the northern summer of 2009.It is going to be an interesting 9 months before the birth of the Scarlet and Epic - I'm just wondering what the 'big guns' will unleash from their R and D teams to counter the attack.Comments can be made on the FORUM.
